How natural swimming pools work
The pool is divided into two sections. The swimming area and the natural filtration area (also known as the regeneration zone). Specially selected plants are planted into the filtration area at different levels/zones. This creates the perfect balance of plants to water ratio.
The flexibility of it, is one of its main attractions. There is not one specific design. It can be in many different forms and can be built to your own designs.
Environmentally
Natural swimming pools are ecologically sound and are chemical free. They promote healthy living and family fun. The regeneration zone uses plants as a living biological filter which in some cases is assisted by additional filtration. The careful selection of plants is essential for the pool to gain a correct balance helps provide water clarity and quality.
History
Although not a completely new idea as we have been swimming in lakes and large ponds for centuries. This idea has been reinvented in the last 30 years beginning in Europe. Natural swimming pools in Europe have been traced to the early eighties.
The idea is becoming more and more popular in the UK. It has seen a real increase since it was first featured at the 2001 Hampton court flower show. They are a clean enjoyable experience that feels natural.
